What Busuu is genuinely better at
The community correction feature is the cleverest thing in this category. A real person reads what you wrote or hears what you recorded and tells you what a textbook cannot: that it is technically correct and nobody says it that way. Nothing automated matches that. The catch is that it is asynchronous — you record, you wait, you read a comment later. That builds accuracy, and accuracy is not the thing that fails you when someone is standing in front of you waiting. Speed is. They train different muscles.
Pick Busuu if: A proper structured course where a real human still reads what you produced and tells you what was off.
Where ConvoLive is different
Most language apps train recognition — you see a word and know what it means. Very few train retrieval under time pressure, which is the thing that fails you when a real person is waiting for you to answer. ConvoLive is built around one loop: watch a real conversation, then have it yourself, out loud, with a clear objective and an AI partner that responds to what you actually said.
It is also free, with no paid tier and no payment details ever requested. That is not a promotion — it is how the product works.
Use both if: you want a vocabulary engine and a place to actually speak. They are complements more than substitutes, and plenty of people run one of each.
