Most apps hand you a list of lessons, and a list is easy to put down. ConvoLive gives you a place instead. You arrive with a suitcase and no address, and the town fills in around you: a room at the guesthouse, a table at the diner, a barista who remembers where you're from. Every conversation moves your life there forward, and the people you talk to carry what you told them into the next one. That's what speaking practice has always needed. Walk across town to your next conversation
Every conversation happens somewhere. Check in at the guesthouse. Have your first dinner at the diner. Register at the town hall. You pick where to go next, walk there, and the conversation is waiting when you arrive. There are 100 of them, from the night you step off the train to a whole year in town.
Everyone you meet remembers you
Tell Emma where you're from and she'll bring it up the next time you stop by the café. When a conversation ends, you see what the person you talked to will remember, and your hearts with them go up. Twenty people live in town. Some stay polite acquaintances. Some become friends, and they start talking to you like one.
Complete real goals, just by talking
Order three apples. Ask for the total. A conversation opens with a short list of things to get done, and each one ticks off the moment you actually do it. Nothing is scripted and nobody tells you which words to use, so the tick is proof you got there yourself. It is also how you know you are done, which a chat window that just keeps going never tells you.
Say it out loud, and get answered
You cannot type your way through a conversation here. Every turn you take is said out loud, and the person in front of you answers what you actually said rather than what a script was expecting. Reading a language and speaking it are separate skills, and the one you keep avoiding is the one that stays hard.
Get the words the moment you freeze
There are two ways out and you will want both. A few suggested lines are always sitting there: play one to hear how it should sound, say it yourself, or translate it first if you are not sure what it means. When the thing you want to say is not among them, type that in your own language and get it back in the language you are learning, without leaving the conversation. Then turn the suggestions off once you stop reaching for them, which is a better measure of progress than any score.
Tap any word and understand it in context
Tap the word. It gets explained right where it sits, in the sense the sentence is actually using. Spanish queda is “it remains”, or “it suits you”, or “let’s meet”, depending on the line it turned up in, and a dictionary hands you one of those three at random. If it was the whole sentence that got away from you, that is a tap as well.
Practise anything the town doesn't cover
Your town can't cover everything. Quick chat has one-off situations for that, from a food allergy at a restaurant to a haircut that went wrong. And the situation you're actually dreading, like asking your girlfriend's father for his blessing, you can describe in a sentence and get a conversation built around it.

Why I built ConvoLive
When I was in Japan as a foreign exchange student, in spite of years of study, I couldn't comfortably ask where we were going or where the bathroom was. That frustration became my motivation and helped me learn quickly.
Since in-country immersion isn't an option for most people, and in-person language exchange can be expensive or hard to schedule, I built ConvoLive to make real conversation practice accessible.
I've found that a lot of apps just want you to study that language but don't give you the tools to speak it. ConvoLive flips this around. You learn by having real conversations with AI avatars - starting with suggested lines to lean on, then dropping them once you stop reaching for them.
