What Pimsleur is genuinely better at
Pimsleur has been right about one thing since the 1960s, long before any of this was software: you have to say it out loud, and you have to be made to recall it before you are ready. That is the same conviction this app is built on, and the method genuinely works. The limit is that a recording cannot be surprised. It asks its question whether or not you understood the last one, and it will never notice that you have said the same wrong thing four times. If the audio format is what gets you practising, keep it — it is a better habit than most.
Pick Pimsleur if: Pronunciation, rhythm, and learning with your hands and eyes busy — on a commute, a walk, or the washing up.
Where ConvoLive is different
Most language apps train recognition — you see a word and know what it means. Very few train retrieval under time pressure, which is the thing that fails you when a real person is waiting for you to answer. ConvoLive is built around one loop: watch a real conversation, then have it yourself, out loud, with a clear objective and an AI partner that responds to what you actually said.
It is also free, with no paid tier and no payment details ever requested. That is not a promotion — it is how the product works.
Use both if: you want a vocabulary engine and a place to actually speak. They are complements more than substitutes, and plenty of people run one of each.
