The bit that trips people up: ser, estar and the subjunctive
Spanish grammar is forgiving until you hit two things English has no equivalent for. Two verbs meaning 'to be' that split permanent from temporary, and a whole mood for things that are wished, doubted or not yet real. You cannot reason your way through either in real time — you get them by having said them enough that the wrong one sounds wrong.
